What does trend analysis/trend model mean?
In a nutshell, trend analysis is a method for determining emerging developments and - as far as the existing data allows - for finding out the cause of developing trends and tendencies. Identifying trends is important because it enables you to forecast the future and react to the likely occurrence of events or outcomes before they have even occurred.
What is Time Series Analysis?
The term time series refers to a sequential order of values of a variable at equal time intervals, which is called a trend. For example, with the help of trends, a company can predict the demand for its products and services for the forecast period. A time series analysis is usually represented via line diagrams and is used in almost all areas of applied science and technology that involve the determination of forecasts.

Different methods of trend analysis
There is no such thing as “trend analysis” per se. Trend analysis is more of a collective term for all methods in statistics and analytics that can be used to identify trends and developments. If you search Google for literature on the subject of trend analysis, you will see a variety of publications on a wide variety of methods. But no matter which trend analysis method you use, you always need data: data that you obtain from ongoing online surveys or data from your CRM, ERP or HIS system. What is crucial here is that the data that you want to use for trend analysis has a “time stamp”, i.e. the information about when the respective data sets were collected or generated.
Easily generate data for trend models and time series analyses with QuestionPro
As a professional system for conducting online surveys, QuestionPro naturally offers its customers the option of downloading data sets that are optimized for creating a trend analysis or time series analysis. In the following example we will show you how easy it is!
STEP 1: Within your work interface, open the desired survey for which you would like to generate data for a trend analysis. Then navigate to the analysis dashboard and select the menu item “Trend Analysis” within the “Analysis” submenu.

STEP 2: Now select the parameters for downloading the data set for your trend analysis.
The following parameters are available for your analysis:
- Record filter: Choose whether you want to use all data sets or a previously set data filter for your trend analysis
- Filter result: Here you can choose whether you only want to download data from completed online surveys, from those that have been started, or from both variants
- Start and end dates: Here you can select the period in which the data that you would like to use for your trend analysis was collected
- Häufigkeit: Here you select the time cluster within which your data should be summarized (see example below): Possible parameters here are: weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually
- Output/Report Data: Here you can choose whether you want to download a simple standard data set or an extended data set that contains, among other things, standard deviations, means and confidence intervals.
