Online test: possible uses and usage

The terms online test or online testing procedure are a collective term for questionnaires to be completed online with the purpose of testing, measuring and evaluating performance, skills, potential and assumptions (hypotheses) and range from the simple query of knowledge to the complex (medical or psychological) diagnostics.

Online tests are used in many industries and areas

  • at university, for example during exams or exams
  • in modern schools, for example in class tests
  • in further vocational training, for example at public and private educational institutions or in adult education centers
  • as part of an online assessment (eAssessment)
  • in aptitude tests and in the aptitude test
  • in medical and psychological diagnostics
  • as online quizzes in eMagazines or on fun portals

Example: Create an online test quickly and easily and have points calculated automatically

QuestionPro offers you the opportunity to create online tests very easily with the support of a so-called help wizard within the questionnaire editor. Here you can formulate your questions and define scores (evaluation scoring), for example for correct and incorrect answers. These points are automatically calculated and issued at the end of QuestionPro, if you wish, also visible to the test participants themselves.

It's that easy to create your online test

STEP 1: To create an online test with QuestionPro, first log into the system and create a new survey. Now click Add Question and select a single or multiple choice question.

Now enter the title of the question and define the answer options. Checking “Required” means this question needs to be answered.

STEP 2 Now click on “LOGIC” and then select “POINT RATING”

Here you will find your answer options, which you can now assign any number of points to. You can also define minus points (malus points). That's it, at least for now. Of course, you can also create more complex online tests, for example with branches and display of the intermediate points reached after each question.

Example of a complex branching in an online test based on point evaluation

You want to give your test participants feedback after each question in the online test has been answered as to whether it was answered correctly. Now let's assume you have a question that has two correct and two incorrect answer options. Test takers have 2 choices (2 out of 4).

Below you will see a test question and three possible responses to be given depending on how test takers answer this question. Feedback 1 should be output if the question was answered completely correctly. Feedback 2 should be given if the question was answered completely incorrectly. Feedback 3 should be issued if at least one answer option was selected correctly.

By the way, you use the placeholder ${score} to tell your test participants the interim result, i.e. all the points collected so far.

Call up the “POINT RATING” via “LOGIC”.

Online test score evaluation

Here you enter one point for the correct answers and no point for the wrong answers. You then define the branches based on the points achieved.

If a test participant now chooses a correct and an incorrect answer option (here: Aartselaar), he or she will receive the following feedback, which was determined based on the number of points achieved.
